Taking A Tour Of York, England

Though there are many interesting cities in the United Kingdom, not many can rival York in terms of cultural heritage. The city of York is situated in the county of North Yorkshire in England, at the mid point between the two capitals of Edinburgh and London. First established as a permanent settlement in 71 AD by the Romans after they took over the tribal village of the Brigantes, York has had a difficult history in terms of the number of leading races and families, though it has always benefited from being a strong trade center due, in part, to its location.

Due to this amazing history, York has a variety of attractions and amenities to suit tourists of all ages and cultures. Instead of describing all of them, we have compiled a shortlist of the places that can not be missed on any trip to this remarkable city.

It is impossible to go to York and not notice at least a part of York Castle. The city was established inside a Roman settlement that first grew inside the walls of York Castle, though the years of wars, flooding and other events have turned the castle into a sprawling complex of buildings all housed inside the main walls. Two of the best sites to see are the Norman keep, now known as Clifford’s Tower, and the walls of the castle which surround the center of York. Some other attractions to note are the Crown Court buildings and the York Castle Museum.

If you find yourself with time to spare and are eager to explore York for yourself of foot then the first place you should head to is the Snikelways. The Snikelways is the name given to an area of York that comprises of lots of small winding footpaths and alleyways, many of which lead to the old market areas of Pavement and St. Samson’s Square. The alleyways can only be passed through on foot and many are surrounded by some beautiful historic architecture and paved with classic cobblestones.

One of the most interesting sites to see in York is the Jorvik Viking Center which was established to educate people as to the way York was during the reign on the Vikings in 866 AD. The center is laid out in accurate detail and as you walk in, you feel as though you are traveling back in time, with houses and street all designed to look how they were 1000 years ago. The Jórvik Viking Center is a great attraction for people of all ages and can easily take a day to fully discover.

Typically posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly textual. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and convey information. Posters may be used for many purposes, and they are a frequent tool of advertisers (particularly of events, musicians and films), propagandists, protestors and other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of artwork, particularly famous works, and are generally low-cost compared to original artwork. Another type of poster are educational posters, which may be about a particular subject for educational purposes. Many posters, particularly early posters, were used for advertising products. Posters continue to be used for this purpose, with posters advertising films, music (both concerts and recorded albums), comic books, and travel destinations being particularly notable examples. By the 1890s, poster art had widespread usage in other parts of Europe, advertising everything from bicycles to bullfights. By the end of the 19th century, during an era known as the Belle Époque, the standing of the poster as a serious artform was raised even further. Between 1895 and 1900, Jules Chéret created the Maîtres de l'Affiche (Masters of the Poster) series that became not only a commercial success, but is now seen as an important historical publication. Alphonse Mucha and Eugène Grasset were also influential poster designers of this generation, known for their Art Nouveau style and stylized figures, particularly of women. Advertisement posters became a special type of graphic art in the modern age. Poster artists such as Théophile Steinlen, Albert Guillaume, Leonetto Cappiello and others became important figures of their day, their art form transferred to magazines for advertising as well as for social and political commentary. In the United States, posters did not evolve to the same artistic level. American posters were primarily directed towards basic commercial needs to deliver a written message. However, the advent of the travelling circus brought colorful posters to tell citizens that a carnival was coming to town. But these too were very commercially utilitarian, of average quality, and few saw any real artistic creativity. Many posters have had great artistic merit and have become extremely collectible. These include the posters advertising World's Fairs and Colonial Exhibitions. tour, tourism, art, Travel is the change in location of people on a trip through the means of transport from one location to another.
