My goodness, what a week! I finally have a breath to give an update about my amazing trip last weekend! Hurray! My Calvin group had a weekend trip to Edinburgh, Scotland! It was SUCH a wonderful trip and was simply beautiful!
On Friday after visiting the castle museum in York, Amy and I did some homework at good old Cafe Nero before heading back to our rooms to pack! Throwing some things in my small suitcase, I was packed up and all set for Scotland! Leaving for the train station at 4:30pm, we boarded our train and enjoyed a mellow ride until we arrived in Edinburgh a little past 8:00pm. After moving our things into our rooms, a bunch of us headed out to town. Allie, Katie, Amy, Hannah and I decided on dessert at “The Filling Station” located on the Royal Mile, the main street in town. Despite being tired, I slept terribly that night! The bunk beds were all so creaky, the cars on the street down below were loud, and people’s loud voices carried straight into our room. So, after a restless night, I got up and joined everyone downstairs in the cafe bar for the continental breakfast.
After breakfast, we headed out as a group at 9 o’clock to the Edinburgh Castle! With drizzly rain falling from the grey clouds hanging low in the sky as we stepped outside the door, we made our way up the Royal Mile. The castle was built at the top of the hill, the highest point of the city. We entered as a group but were able to wander and explore on our own.

First, we admired the incredible view from the canons along the outer wall of the castle! Climbing the hill up towards the middle square of the castle, a big group of us walked through the rooms full of history on the monarchs before arriving in the final room which housed the Royal Jewels including the crown and the Stone of Destiny. Next, we were able to explore the Royal Apartments, the Great Hall, and the Prison before heading back near the walls for some impressive views, a dog cemetery, and a huge canon!
