Brokers Events: A Texas-sized Success

This week, four prominent Texas brokers – Wortham Insurance, Roach Howard Smith & Barton, BancorpSouth Insurance Services and McQueary Henry Bowles Troy – twice joined forces to host what turned out to be the largest educational session on the Insurance Exchange to date for the carriers with whom they do business in Texas. These brokers have all adopted the Insurance Exchange to transact business on commercial P&C insurance for middle market risks. The principals at these firms wanted to emphasize the importance of this decision as well as to underwriters with an overview of the process and to address any questions or concerns.

On behalf of all of us at LexisNexis, a special thanks to our broker hosts this week in Texas. Between events in Dallas and Houston, more than 150 underwriters and other representatives from carriers, MGAs and wholesalers attended these events.

In Dallas, Charles Flournoy, Vice Chairman of Wortham Insurance, Tom Hughston, CEO of Roach Howard Smith & Barton, Gary Lafour, President of BancorpSouth Insurance Services and Bill Henry, CEO of McQueary Henry Bowles Troy kicked off the event by talking about their thoughts on the Insurance Exchange and their commitment to using it in their organizations. In Houston, Gary Lafour spoke again with Jim McCann of Wortham Insurance.

Key points made by the brokers included:

The Insurance Exchange provides the efficiencies they need in a number of key ways; it’s going to help them organize submissions, enhance tracking and recording and reduce E&O exposure. The concept of an exchange has been tried before in the industry. The difference is that Insurance Exchange is real, well thought-out, secure and it works. As the rest of the industry is turned on to the Insurance Exchange, it will be the means of communication between brokers and carriers business in the future. Going forward there will be two types of agents and insurers – survivors and casualties....
