A Taste of France in Barcelona: Restaurant En Ville

Restaurant En Ville

I was tired from endless walking in stylish (yet uncomfortable) spring shoes around Barcelona. It was about 3pm, which meant that it was getting late to have lunch. Normally, lunch is served in Spain from 1pm to 4pm. I tried a side-street, hoping to find something delicious and new, and there it was: Restaurant En Ville. Ask and you shall receive!

So I went straight in and got a table by the bar. Restaurant En Ville is decorated from floor to ceiling in live plants. Leafy palms, hanging ferns, climbers, and over twenty vases stuffed with flowers and greens, all beautifully arranged throughout the restaurant. So French, I thought to myself, sipping my bubbly water with lemon wedge. The walls at Restaurant En Ville are adorned with murals of natural scenes such as fish swimming or covered in framed antique mirrors. The whole effect is very cozy and soothing and completely different style-wise from anything I’ve seen in Barcelona.

I ordered the pasta with a goat cheese sauce to start with, which was rich, simple and delicious. I wanted to follow it up with the catch of the day, served with wild rice, but they were fresh out (always a risk when you show up for lunch at 3pm). So instead I had the potatoes au gratin, which were served with green beans and covered with shredded pumpkin and some other vegetable that I was not able to identify. I could have done without the pumpkin, but otherwise it was delicious.

Indeed, this made for a heavy lunch, and I probably should have started with the wild greens and mushroom salad…oh well, next time. There will be a next time, because I definitely plan to return to Restaurant En Ville for lunch or dinner on the weekend. A wonderful place to take a close friend, your main-squeeze or to simply treat yourself to a nice lunch.
