If you've always dreamed of walking the Great Wall of China or cruising the Nile River to see King Tut's Tomb in Luxor, Egypt, then you may want to take your vacation with a tour operator. When you book an all inclusive tour with one of the world's best tour operators, you are free to enjoy the trip because they are the experts on the area of the world that you wish to visit. But who are the best tour group operators? And which tour group should you spend your hard earned money with? Also, who are the top tour operators for the destination you wish to travel to?
Travel with Oliver has a list of the best tour operators world wide for you to consider. All have been chosen to be reviewed by our readers because they constantly show up on major publications lists of the best. They operate tours in all parts of the world and to all of the major cities. If you have used one of the tour groups on your last vacation, we welcome you to comment on your experience also by adding another review and your comments.
Before you choose a tour group operator you should start thinking about your objectives, I always start off with a list of things I want to do. Where do I want to go and what do I want to see? Where do I want to stay and how much do I want to spend? If I'm on a budget then I am more concerned with value. I also decide if I want to be more adventurous and take a tour that explores the out of the way places or if I want to take a more relaxed trip. One tour might involve transportation on a back road vehicle and the other might involve a luxurious bus ride with plenty of free time. If I take a land tour then I might want to decide if I want to spend time in many locations or stay in one location and take day trips to the sights in the area. Taking a ocean cruise liner or small ship cruise down a river allows you more time to relax and see the cultural and historical sights along the way. Either way there are tours and tour operators for each type of tour. We hope that our reviews will give you a better idea of who to use.
Once decided why you want to take your vacation and what destination you want to visit, you can take the next step. There are many resources available for you to start. Each destination that you want to visit, whether it's a small town or city in the United States or somewhere in the world like Canada or Europe and London, England or Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has a tourism office. Look here for tourism offices worldwide to start. You can also read about the cities, events, sights, weather, and food by visiting our Travel To Section. More information on the destinations you might want to visit are in our Cities and Destinations Section.
The next place you may want to visit is a couple of recognized tour group operator associations. In the United States we have the United States Tour Operators Association (AKA USTOA). This is an association of tour group operators that agree to the principles of the USTOA. When you book a tour with one of their members you have a better chance of getting what you pay for:
According to USTOA:
"Their motto is 'Integrity in Tourism.' Accordingly, the association has established some of the highest standards in the industry. Among these is the principle of ethical conduct, which requires members to conduct business according to a set of professional standards. Additionally, members must represent all facts, conditions and requirements relating to tours and vacation packages truthfully and accurately.
Truth in Advertising requires that members advertise and quote prices which are totally deliverable; accurately identify facilities, accommodations and services; and communicate any substitutions promptly to the travel agent and/or their client.
Members must also demonstrate ethical and financial responsibility in their business conduct, and instill confidence in their financial stability, reliability and integrity."
The last way to determine which tour operator you want to use for your next tour is to talk to former customers or read their reviews on sites like this one. If you have questions for my readers or myself, go to http://Subscribe.CruiseWithBruce.com or by visiting Frommer's Forum. Finally you can ask the tour group operator for reviews from recent tourists that traveled with them.
