Listen to the Cruise with Bruce show when host Bruce Oliver talks with captain
RJ Rubadeau about his adventures and book. Robert J Rubadeau is an award winning
author, essayist, columnist and poet.
Rubadeau’s career as a professional blue water sailor has been
chronicled by nearly a hundred articles published in over four decades in the
world’s sailing periodicals. Robert’s colorful resume includes professional dog
racing in Alaska, climbing in the Himalayas, driving a race car for a living,
and sailing a small craft around Cape Horn. During this segment of the Cruise
with Bruce Radio show, host Bruce Oliver with talk with RJ about his adventures
sailing around the world and his experiences in the America's Cup Regatta.
Rubadeau will also talk about his autobiography entitled "Bound For Roque
Island: Sailing Maine and the World" that was published in 2010.
Bound For Roque
Island: Sailing Maine and the World is high adventure and practical
advice served family style. Rubadeau weaves together a first-hand
account of the audacious egos, the behind-the-scenes high-jinx, and the
cold wet terror of world-class open ocean racing in the golden days of
amateur crews; alongside a life-long love affair with his family
cruising on a vintage wooden boat plying the wild and fog-bound coasts
of Maine. A mutinous but “blood bound” crew on a “Shanghai” to remote
Roque Island provides a pivotal personal journey for all aboard. It is a
bumpy and hilarious voyage as our long time sailing mentor fetches up on
the reefs of adulthood.
Join Bruce Oliver as he talks with Robert about all of his sailing adventures
and for his tips about sailing around the world. Hear a funny story that he
related when we talked about sextants.
