Is Zagreb safe to visit by yourself?

Q: I'm thinking of going to Zagreb (and probably another city nearby) for a few days in September. Would I be ok to travel on my own?

A: Absolutely safe, just visited there this spring.

QUESTIONS ABOUT VIENNA AND ZAGREB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Q: I plan to go to Vienna, Austria and Zagreb, Croatia for a trip next week and might stop in Bratislava, Slovakia just for 1 day. I was wondering is it dangerous there for BLACK American men? Do the women there like BLACK American men? I was wondering which one is cheaper overall and better to visit.

What is the weather like in August? Does it rain a lot? What is all to do there? Is it very expensive like Rome? Do they have a nice zoo and aquarium? Are the people hospitable towards Americans? Where do they speak English more? Is there a train that goes from Vienna to Zagreb and a train from Vienna to Bratislava? How long and how much is it? Is it safe for BLACK Americans?

I'm not a trouble maker nor I don't drink smoke, and not a party person but if something was to happen to me to where I went to jail will the US help me and be notified or is it like Mexico and Japan where the US can't do anything about it?

Certain countries have laws with the US where we are protected and the US can do something for us to get out of jail if an American was to get into trouble but I forget the name of this act Someone who is from there or who have experience please tell me which one should I visit and that's worth my money to travel too. Thanks
Thanks Wal I appreciate all the info. I'm flying into Vienna and plan to take a train to Zagreb for the weekend

A: "Certain countries have laws with the US where we are protected and the US can do something for us to get out of jail if an American was to get into trouble but I forget the name of this act"

Completely inaccurate and ridiculous information.

When you travel abroad you OBEY the LAWS of that COUNTRY. If you violate the rules of the host country you go to jail. There is nothing your government can do about it. PERIOD.

    Hello,

I'm from Croatia so ill try to help ya with that matter hehe. You have nothing to worry abt ;) Its not dangerous at all. Buh I'd suggest going to Istria instead of Zg cause of the sea and tourism..And yes, girls here like black men (nationality doesnt matter hehe) :) I suppose that Slovakia is a bit cheaper, buh Cro isnt that expencive either. Weather these days is sunny and hot, might rain buh it soon stops. We have zoos and many aquariums..ppl are very hospitable and almost everyone speaks english...im not sure abt trains buh theres probably a website online where you can check.
Now, im not sure abt this law thing..i can only say that if ure not a trouble maker then u dont need to worry :) .. Hope i helped ya a bit.. anythin else ?
    Greetings:)

I am from Vienna, and let me start off by telling you, that people are generally very nice and welcoming here, and in no way racist! So, no you won't be having any trouble as a young black american man.

In Vienna it's not as expensive as in Rome, but it's not cheap either. There is a train to Bratislava almost every hour, and it takes about an hour to get there. A ticket to Bratislava and return costs 14 euros.

The weather is pretty cold, for this time of year, averages of about 20 degrees celsius. Depends on what you're used to. I would bring a sweater for the evenings.

Also in Vienna there are lots of architectural and historic landmarks you will enjoy, and also a big zoo at Schönbrunn.

    Have fun,
    Alma

hello, I am from croatia but living in America now. Zagreb is very nice but like the girl above me said, I recommend going to the coast, there are a lot of tourists there and the beaches are very beautiful and clean, and yes it is safe if you are black. I have seen black and asian people there before, although very uncommon.

QUESTIONS ABOUT PARIS, LJUBLJANA AND ZAGREB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Q: I plan to go to Paris, France and Zagreb, Croatia and might stop in Ljubljana, Slovenia just for 1 day for a trip next week I was wondering is it dangerous there for BLACK American men? Do the women there like BLACK American men? I was wondering which one is cheaper overall and better to visit. I've heard French people are rude towards Americans especially BLACK Americans so that's why I plan to stay only 2 days just to see the tower.

What is the weather like in August? Does it rain a lot? What is all to do there? Is it very expensive like Rome? Do they have a nice zoo and aquarium? Are the people hospitable towards Americans? Where do they speak English more? How long and how much is it? Is it safe for BLACK Americans? How much and how long is the train from Zagreb to Ljubljana? Is the train safe for Americans?

I'm not a trouble maker nor I don't drink smoke, and not a party person but if something was to happen to me to where I went to jail will the US help me and be notified or is it like Mexico and Japan where the US can't do anything about it?

I don't think my question is puzzling.
Purplelunacy- thanks but just because someone is in a bad modd doesn't mean they should take it out on others. Yes I agree I hate NY and will NEVER go back there not live there. It's so overrated

A: Your question is very puzzling because France is no less civilised or safe than the USA. Black people are not scorned there because quite a few French citizens have their ethnic origins in past French colonies or present overseas territories. They were accepted in the general pattern of things at a time when blacks were still discriminated against in America. You are more likely to stand out in Zagreb or Ljubljana. French women have no particular dislike for American men, whatever colour they are, provided they act with decorum, do not accost them rudely or in a suggestive manner, do not get drunk and behave like boors. Black American actors like Harry Belafonte, singers like Nat King Cole and jazz players like Sidney Bechet and Louis Armstrong were the rage and are still popular.

Paris deserves more than two days to visit because it is crammed with interesting monuments, art galleries, lovely gardens, and yes, there is a zoo and state of the art aquariums, one of which at the Trocadéro is the best in Europe. Paris is a truly splendid city and the palace of Versailles, on the outskirts of Paris is one of the world wonders. Paris has much more to offer than Zagreb or Ljubljana which are rather drab, having suffered in more recent wars, and where the architecture is rather depressing partly because they were communist states. Not surprisingly Paris, since it is the most visited city in the world, it is more expensive overall. On the whole more ordinary people there speak and understand English as it is taught in schools, and many foreign tourists use English as the lingua franca to communicate with the locals. It would be helpful if you learnt basic greetings such as "Bonjour", "Merci", "Pardon", etc...to show willing and make a good impression.

Since you are not a trouble maker, do not drink etc.. you would not get into trouble and nobody would pick a fight with you either because of your nationality or your colour. There is no conceivable reason for you to be put in jail, unless you commit a felony. There is an American Embassy in Paris and if something were to happen to you, they would be contacted and would try to assist you as they would any American citizen. That is the general purpose of embassies abroad. There is also an American hospital, but unless you step under a car, the worst that might happen to you would be for your pocket to be picked as is happening in all capitals or major cities worldwide irrespective of nationality or location, so be careful with your possessions and do not carry all your money on you at any one time, and leave your valuables in the hotel safe. Do not wander on your own in down-at-heel districts late at night and do not take any risk that you would not take back home whatever city you are in. Do not forget to take a travel insurance before you leave, wherever you choose to go.
Trains are safe in Europe and Americans have no more problems in them than any other person.
The weather in August in Paris is generally warm with odd showers. It is a good time for tourists because a large number of Parisians take their annual holiday at that time so that it is less full of people going about their normal business. However at the moment it is colder than it would be normally.

It is your decision where to go depending on how long you are in Europe and the state of your finances. It is easy enough to Google Paris, Zagreb, or Ljubljana and see which has more appeal to you personally. It seems pointless to waste time travelling between these cities if you only have a very short time at your disposal, and, frankly, I would give Ljubljana a miss altogether unless you have personal reasons to go there.

There's no reason for you to feel in danger, really ! French are not racist, but the worst could be them getting scared of you (thanks to American gangster movies XD), not the other way around. Anyway, French are not rude, that's a myth, at least we're not any ruder than, say, NY Americans : we're just busy, so we're not always in a good mood. But most of the time, there will be at least one good soul to help you out ^^.
Generally the weather is good in August, although right now it's pouring with rain, but tomorrow it'll be sunny XD. Anyhow, Paris isn't a particularly rainy city, it's kinda average.
Oh and there are many more things to see in Paris than the Eiffel tower (which is considered ugly by some of us... including me lol). Just taking a long walk along the Seine, or a bus ride, would show you loads of beautiful stuff.
As for zoos, the most famous is "Le zoo de Vincennes", outside of Paris ; as for aquariums, there is "Cinéaqua", not far from the Eiffel tower, at Trocadero metro station.
I don't think there should be any reason for you to end up in jail, but if so, the US and France are in quite close terms, so there shouldn't any problems with you.

Your main point seems to be whether or not you'll be protected by the US if you get into any kind of trouble. Well, sorry to disappoint you, but if you break the law in any country you will be punished according to the laws of that country regardless of your citizenship. The US authorities can do nothing to protect you if you've done something illegal. The US Embassy will be notified, and Consular officials will check to see if you need anything, but other than that you're on your own.

Americans, black or white, are safe in Europe. In fact, safer than they are at home. So you've got nothing to worry about there.

The best way to find out about these cities is to buy a guidebook before you go. That way you'll know what to see, how to travel, where to stay.
