How is the drive from San Jose to Fresno?
Q: I am planning to drive from San Jose to Fresno to visit a friend. I DO NOT like winding roads or mountains or HEAVILY wooded areas that make me feel like I am in the middle of nowhere. Nor do I like roads on high elevations. Will I have to deal with any of these things on this drive? Thanks.
A: There are no winding roads. It's all interstate highways and freeways.

What community colleges around San Jose, California are going to have winter classes this year?
Q: I know that Evergreen Valley College, San Jose City and I think Mission said they are not going to be having winter classes this year.
A: West Valley will, but 66% of them will be cut.
Is there anywhere somewhat interesting to meet about halfway between San Jose and San Luis Obispo?
Q: I am trying to meet my friend because she goes to Cal Poly and I live in san jose. I'm up for anything.. outdoors, lake/river, park, a nice restraunt, i dunno. King City would be the ideal meeting spot but theres nothing there and frankly its not a nice place.

If you want an interesting place to see, go to Hearst Castle. It's closer to SLO, but if you have never been there you need to check it out. It's one of those places you must see before you die.

The towns of Pacific Grove and Carmel are just South of Monterey and are very nice and picturesque. A lot of VERY nice restaurants in both towns. Or, you can pack a picnic lunch and find a spot along the famous 17 Mile Drive to stop and eat while enjoying the view. There IS a per vehicle charge to enter the 17 Mile Drive area, but it has some of the world's most spectacular coastal views.

There aren't any easy alternatives because, as you've noted, King City isn't that nice. Nor is Soledad or any other city in the Salinas Valley. Good choices (Monterey, Big Sur) are on Highway 1 rather than U.S. 101, which means they will be a long drive from SLO.
What are good fancy restaurants to have an anniversary dinner? Fremont-San Jose?
Q: Me and my girlfriend are celebrating our anniversary together this Saturday. I already have stuff planned during the day but I'm stumped when it comes to dinner. Does anyone have any good restaurant recommendations for anniversaries? I'm thinking about something fancy where we can dress up and wear suits and dresses. Somewhere downtown or local in Fremont/San Jose, California. I heard Santana Row has some good spots? I am open to all types of foods, just not Indian cuisine. All suggestions are welcome, thanks!

San Jose cops beat and tase handcuffed student on video

San Jose police were caught on a cell phone video viciously beating and tasering a 20-year-old unarmed college student, even after he was handcuffed.
While the video is difficult to see unless you enlarge it, the student’s screams of pain are chilling as he gets beaten at least ten times with a metal baton.
And the officer standing casually overseeing the torture indicates that Phuong Ho was not “violently kicking and refusing to comply” as stated in the police report.
The video is visible enough were several ex-police officers interviewed by the San Jose Mercury News believe excessive force was used. And three San Jose City Council members are demanding an investigation.
Fortunately, the San Jose Mercury News is making an issue about the incident, so far dedicating four articles, including an editorial that describes it as “the kind of thing you expect from rogue precincts in Los Angeles or New York.”
The editorial tends to believe the San Jose Police Department is getting out of hand:
San Jose police in recent years have made unusually high numbers of arrests on charges such as public drunkenness and resisting arrest — incidents that other cities tend to resolve without filing charges. Has confrontation become the norm here?
The four officers have been placed on leave, which means they are now sitting at home getting paid until this blows over. Or possibly sooner.
The incident started when Ho, a Vietnamese mathematics student who attends San Jose State University, got into an argument with his roommate, who slopped soap on his steak. What is it with college kids and their pranks?
Naturally this angered Ho who picked up a knife and said “In Vietnam, I would kill you for this” before putting the steak knife down. Some of the students laughed but the idiot who put soap on his steak, Jeremy Suftin, freaked out and called the cops.

I would take 680 north to Dublin and catch 580 east. Take that to the Fresno/LA exit (or you could continue east on 205 to 99). Take 580 south until it merges with and becomes 5. Continue on 5 south until you hit 152. Take 152 east to 99 and then take 99 south into Fresno.
