How big of a tourist spot is Perth compared to Sydney or Melbourne?
Q: Are there any fun party spots in Perth that a single american like myself would enjoy?

A: Perth is beautiful but it is a long way away from most other capitals. I think it's worth a look because most tourists only go to the East, but the West and the North of Australia are possibly the best places to visit for that truly unique Aussie experience. If you come all the way from America and only go to Sydney and Melbourne you'll be so disappointed and missing out on heaps.
Beaches
Scarborough Beach is good for teens and young adults, but stay until night and eat at a nearby restaurant because there are some good nightclubs and bars around.
Cottesloe is another popular beach.
Bars and Clubs
Box Deli is a good bar, it's on Hay street and has good service and is a pretty classy place.
BarOne around the corner from Box Deli is pretty good.
Llama bar is really good but is probably the most famous bars and takes a while to get in and is pretty busy. It's on Hay St also.
Onyx is one with a sexy, smooth vibe. It is pretty good but there aren't many toilets... Pee before you go! This ones on Outram Street.
Tiger Lil's is worth a look. It's asian-thai inspired but gets seriously packed.
Belgian Beer Cafe is worth a visit. On the corner of Murrary St and King. It isn't opened all that late.
The Subiaco Hotel is where all the beautiful people go for a good night,
If you're visiting during AFL season you should go to one of the perth home games. That'd be really fun. You can get beer and food their while watching a pretty unique kind of sport and listening to lots of people passionately yelling and cheering and generally getting over emotional :)

Perth is a nice little city but it is a very long way from anywhere else. Sydney and Melbourne are much bigger, more cosmopolitan and have more things to do than Perth. Even so, lots of people have a very good time in the west and I've always enjoyed myself when I've been there. Google "What's on in Perth" for a number of websites pointing you to various different activities happening in Perth. It should give you some idea.
What are the suburbs or town closest to the perth metropolitan area borderline?
Q: How far does the perth metro area go? and wat are the towns or suburbs that are close to the bordeline of this..?
A: The urban sprawl of Perth is currently from Joondalup in the North, Mandurah in the South, Armadale in the South East, Mundaring in the East and Stratton in the North East. The actual defined Metro area is larger, but those places are for now the effective boundary. Joondalup to Mandurah is about 100km by road and Fremantle to Mundaring almost 50km.

Perths farthest suburbs include Pinjarra which is some 75km out. Others close to Perth are Albany, Carnarvon, Broome, Busselton and Bunbury.
What activities can I do if I stay at Perth for a week in the coming October?
Q: I'm planning a trip at Perth with my family, including my three-year-old son.
A: Kings Park in the city
Rottenness Island for a day
Freemantle for a day or two (get there on the train easy enough) local beach-side area, maritime museum, old gaol, shopping, cafes.
Get a day tour down to Marget River (wine and food region, surfing)
Perth Zoo (city)
Swan River (city)
The Pinnacles (day tour)
Going up to Monkey Mia or the Ningaloo reef is beautiful but more then a day trip.

A week? You'll only just get over the jet lag!
Go to Rotto - an absolute must. (Avoid school holidays and the lottery booking system)
Freo markets - especially the weekend.
Cruise up and down the Swan.
Perth Zoo is very good.
Go down to Mandurah and cruise the Peel inlet. See the dolphins.
It'll be right for whale watching from Freo. (Get a charter boat)

A: I got my 2nd Sphynx from from a Perth breeder OzSphynx. They are lovely guys and are very helpful with their potential buyers.
