how do I marry my partner from Guatemala in the UK?

Q: We have known eachother for 7 years and were going out 7 years ago and through other problems we didn't continue our relationship but in the past three months we have restarted our relationship and now we want to marry but she is still in Guatemala and I am a UK citizen.

A: She will need to apply for a fiancee visa to marry in the UK or alternatively you can marry elsewhere and then she will need to apply for a spouse visa.

If you are granted a fiancee visa you then have a six month window in which to get married and then you will need to change the visa status to spouse visa. After 2 years she will then be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain.

The whole process is long, expensive and complex. You need to follow the immigration rules to the letter in order to be successful with your application.

Alternative ways of traveling to Guatemala?

Q: Just got back from a trip to Guatemala, and I'm planning another for next summer. I'm coming from Minneapolis, and the cost of a flight down to Guatemala City is pretty steep. Do you know of any other ways of getting down there cheaper (bus, train, car, boat)?

A: I pretty sure a flight would be the cheapest and safest way, and least frustrating way. Going through Mexico right now, and Central america on a bus is never really recommend.

  • HijoDelSol says:
You can definitely take a bus. There are lots of express buses from the US to Guatemala that are very affordable in comparison to flights. However, with Mexico having the issues that they are right now, safety could be an issue.
  • Hondu says:
Barring the situation in Mexico right now, there are lots of buses, even some very nice, modern, with all the comforts, buses, that travel from the Mexican border cities (for example Nogales, just south of Tucson) to Ciudad Guatemala and other points. And they are very inexpensive by our standards. I have several friends who have driven from the US to Honduras, by way of Guatemala of course, and while they all enjoyed their trips it wasn't inexpensive.

going to antigua, guatemala in a week what clothes to take?

Q: staying in Guatemala for 2 weeks, I am staying in a decent hotel for the first 5 nights then the rest of the stay i aim to stay in hostels around the country...

because i want to be moving around a fair bit, i think i should take a backpack rather than a suitcase, but i still don't know what kind of weather to expect, and how to dress!
Help pleeeeease :)
oh and also...

It will range from the 70s to the 80s in the day and get a bit cooler at night. And if you travel to any higher altitudes, it will be down to the 50s and if you travel to the coast or to Peten it will be in the 90s.

Take light cloths and some cloths to layer so if you go higher into the highlands and at night, you can layer up to warm up.

And you can almost guarantee that there will be rain. It is usually light and brief.
  • LesLrie says:
flip flops is not recommended. The roads are cobble stone so your feet will get dirty.
and then whatever that other guy (hijoDelSol) said. I'm only adding. =]

May I also recommend breakfast at Casa De Santo Domingo. The buffet. Then take a walk around the garden and museum.

What types of small businesses would thrive in countries like Guatemala and El Salvador?

Q: I want to open a store overseas, but I don't know what would thrive in 3rd world countries. I'm thinking cupcakes.

What is the population size in Guatemala city?

Q: I red there are 1.3 million, 2 million, and 3 million......yup which one is the most accurate one? A native Guatemalan to answer is preferable.

A: According to wikipedia the population of the city is 942,348 but including the whole metropolitan area: 2,945,080. That might explain the difference.
