Q: I'm currently in Grand Cayman with my family (ages 16, 19, 47, 49). So far, we've heard of little to nothing to do at night here. Does anyone know of anything to do besides going to a bar or club? Thanks!
A: On Sat Nights, Grand Harbour has a surf show, where the younger ones can learn to surf.
The barefoot man has a good dinner show at the Reef resort
Q: We are going on a cruise in a week and I just printed out a list of all the excursions we can do in each place. What is the excursion called in Grand Cayman with the stingrays?
Also... if we end up doing that excursion is there anything else we can do in Grand Cayman before our ship leaves? We will be there the majority of the day.
Thanks:)
A: Stingray City -- you'll want a few hours for the excursion, and it will be the time of your life.
Q: We are going soon and I need to know what to do there.
Like where are the best places to shop?
What excursions to do at each place?
Which place to just relax on the beach?
etc.
We are going with a cruise so we only have til like 7 or 8 each night. Thanks:)
A: Well, you most likely won't have until 7 or 8 at night. The cruise ships usually leave port about 4 or 5 p.m. - definitely in GC.
GC is an easy and safe port to do things on your own. "The" thing to do there is swimming with the stingrays, and it's a lot of fun [even for a "fraidy cat" like me!]. Don't go with the cruise line excursions unless you like crowds. There are several companies there you can safely book with, e.g. Captain Marvin, Nativeway [both of which we have used and liked], etc. Or, just grab a cab or city bus to the beach and hang out. Some people like to shop here - that's not my thing - but, especially if there are three or four ships anchored, it will be a real zoo, and I wasn't impressed with the "bargains". Keep in mind that this is a tender port, so you need to allow extra time to get the tender to the ship -it's about 10-15 minutes in this port.
In Belize, you don't want to be going out on your own. You may want to book an excursion from a private company, but there's no beach near the port [another tender port - this one takes about 30 min]. Lots of people do the cave tubing, but it's a long bus ride, then a long hike to get to the start. We did snorkeling at Goff's Caye, through the ship - only because they pick you up right at the ship, so you don't have to tender. It was terrific!
Haven't been to Roatan, but from what I've read, lots of people go to one of the beaches on the "west" end to snorkel or just chill out. There's also a guy who gives a good island tour.
Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then find "Ports of Call". There you'll find a ton of great, up-to-date info from experienced cruisers. Just browse the board, or, if you join CC [it's free] you can do a search or post your own question and also check the "Roll Call" for your sailing. That's a way to "meet" fellow passengers before you go, arrange to attend the on-board get-together, and plan excursions with others, if you want.
