Is there tailgating before Dallas Cowboys preaseason games and are they crowded?

Q: Going to a preseason Dallas Cowboys/Oakland Raiders game this year in Dallas while I am down there visiting family. Do people tailgate for preaseason games? Also how crowded are preaseason games? Just trying to plan when I should leave for the stadium and what I can be in store for. Thanks!

A: Yes there is, but Tailgating is permitted in designated tailgating spaces only around the perimeter of the lots. I enclosed a link to the stadium that should help. While the games are crowded, but it is not that bad getting in and around from my experience. If you want to tailgate, I would show up early (just after the lots open) enough to either get set up or roam around and socialize. You can alos hang out and do the same for a couple hours after the game as well.

Have fun, I don't know where your tickets are but take some time and roam the other levels inside as well - amazing place.

What are some good Dallas suburbs to live in that are kinda small, but not red neck filled?

Q: Like, under 20,000 people. I'm moving to Dallas sometime next year and my parents and me are wondering a good Dallas suburb to live in is. We're from a small town and Canada and my parents want to still stay in a small town but they don't want it to be like a complete redneck town. They are thinking about Coppell or Addison, how are those?

A: Actually none of the suburbs around the Dallas - Ft Worth Metroplex are red neck communities.
The population of Coppell is close to 50,000 so that's much larger than you're looking for. The town of Addison, with a population of about 15,000, is only 4,4 square miles in size, but is a very busy place so it has a lot of traffic, but it may be the only suburb with a population under 20,000.

    Try Dallas city, Illinois.
  • Muppet says:
Coppell and Addison are pretty devoid of rednecks.
Addison is actually a very busy, traffic-filled little suburb of Dallas that is home to one of the busiest commuter airports in the nation, a few company headquarters and some nice neighborhoods with 'secret' parks and unfortunately zero lot line homes. At one time every resident could use the Addison Athletic Club for free. I'm not sure if it's still like that. The crime rate is pretty low and the cops respond immediately to any calls. Addison is known for it's Restaurant Row on Beltline. Almost any cuisine and bar you could want are located on the 3-mile stretch of road.
To get a small town feel you'll have to move farther away than Addison and Coppell. Both are very busy suburbs.
  • Charis N says:
Addison isn't a small town at all. I mean, by size it's small, but there is always a ton of traffic there because of all the entertainment. It looks small by population, but the population more than doubles every night because of all the visitors.

Cities like Lavon, Nevada, Royce City, Caddo Mills, Forney, Terrell would all probably fit what you're looking for. There are a lot of small cities North of Dallas but everything North is growing so fast, many of those cities probably won't be small for long. Plus the average house cost is much higher North of Dallas.
  • MavONE says:
I've lived in Dallas and a tiny town much further north, and a few places in between. I own land near Lavon, and it's still an area just starting to see some growth. And Nevada isn't a place I'd recommend. It's not easy to get to, and suburban life hasn't reached it yet. A little small town with nice city perks close by, is Prosper. It has some building going on, but they keep it a little country at the same time. The population is still under 10,000, but Frisco (pop. 68,000) is just a 10 minute drive south. The city of Dallas itself is about 30 to 40 minutes away depending your route and traffic. Anna is straight up Hwy. 75 from Dallas, about 30 minutes as well. It is pleasantly rural, but nothing I'd call redneck. The average home price is about $80 - 85,000, has some nice new subdivisions and easy access to yet another nice area - McKinney. McKinney has a bigger population and is growing like crazy, but still has a small town feel. It's also just about 20 minutes outside of Dallas. I'd would also recommend checking out Parker, Murphy, Lucas, and a few other Collin county town or cities, as well as Southlake or Colleyville. The latter 2 have a higher average cost of living and higher real estate prices, though. Coppell is a better choice than Addison, but is quite pricey and in the midst of some growth. Addison is a great place for young professionals, and is more of an entertainment, dining, and business area than a residential area. Traffic is awful and there's a lot of hustle and bustle going on. We don't have a bunch of gun toting rednecks running about, but a fair share of folks that are still kind of country. Not necessarily close into the Dallas area though.

What is the best neighborhood to live (apartment) around Dallas? I will be working near Duncanville?

Q: I will be moving to Dallas area in a month and I will like to get advice on the best and safest neighborhoods to live. I will prefer if they are close to my job, however I wouldn't mind to commute. I will be working near Duncanville, Texas. If you could suggest Appartment Complexes names (average price and nice) would be great !

A: I would look at some of the apartments in Cedar Hill area, which borders Duncanville to the south. It is a safe, fast-growing community with lots of shopping and restaurants.

How much would an average apartment cost plus bills and everything a month in a suburb of dallas?

Q: I'm planning on moving into an apartment in Lancaster, Texas which is a suburb of Dallas, and i'm wondering how much an apartment and gas, electricity, etc. would cost all together a month.

A: It totally depends on the location, quality, and size of the apartment. A dive could be $400 a month plus $125 for utilities. A posh penthouse apartment could be $4500 a month plus $600 a month for utilities.

If you want 900 Sq. Ft. middle class in a safe neighborhood, plan on spending in the neighborhood of $700 to $900 a month, and figure $200 for basic utilities.

Look at apartment finder websites for a preview of properties and rates.
