Is 46k a year good for San Francisco?

Q: So I'm moving from NC to SF. I'm going to have a base salary of 46k. I plan to find people to live with and I need a place where I don't have to drive around too much to park my car. I don't really spend too much on things as I have most things that I will need, clothes, entertainment stuff, etc. So just food, gas(I will be driving to work in Brisbane), and some moderate entertainment on the weekends. What would be a good place to live where I don't have to worry about my car getting stolen, but is relatively close to grocery stores, bars, etc And what would be a reasonable rent to pay if I plan on living with others? Thanks!

A: I doubt that you can find a decent place in the city. However, you could look into some surrounding areas.

Eh, it might be a bit tight. Don't expect to do better than 800, even living with others. Maybe it's easier to park out west by Sunset I'm not sure.

The city is quite expensive. You might wanna live in a city close to Bart & commute to the city that way....finding a place in the city requires a fairly high salary...not many people can afford even the shiitier places in the city to live. Also, you'll prolly have to pay for parking w/ whatever place you get especially if you find a place with a lower rent...the next closest city is oakland but i would not recomend it...your best bet would be to find a small place up in lafayette or something...a safe place where you can pretty much park your car in ease & there is a BART station there so you can get to the city right quick :) It's kinna expensive but a whole lot less than the city.
Any cheaper places close to the city are pretty much 'unsafe'.. aka your car may get stolen :/ Which is not cool....
