Q: I am looking for a location to do a photo shoot with models, and I am looking for industrial/ dilapidated/ abandoned location around Brisbane to do it, but being new to the city I am not aware of any such places.
Your help would be greatly appreciated
A: Wolston Park Hospital has an old building that I have seen some wonderful photos from http://www.google.com.au/search?q=wolston+park+mental+asylum&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a.
I emailed them recently, asking very nicely if I could please take photos in the abandoned building. It took them weeks to answer, and then the answer was "no" :-( Some nonsense about privacy issues, which is ridiculous because the building stands by itself and is well and truly empty.
It would not be difficult to just go in there.... the gate was open, it wasn't far from the fence *sigh*
Another place you might like to check out is St Helena Island http://www.google.com.au/search?q=wolston+park+mental+asylum&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a. I haven't been there yet, but it is on my list for sure.
The Powerhouse at New Farm Park is not at all abandoned any more, but is a very interesting location, both inside and out. It is very easy to get to, especially via ferry or bus, so you might want to put that one on your list, too. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=brisbane+powerhouse&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Pretty please let me know if you find any other interesting spots. Good luck!
Q: I'm going to a wedding up the sunshine coast in september, just as a guest, but i need to wear a pink dress. Does anyone know any good shops in Brisbane city that aren't too expensive ($100 - $200) that have nice dresses..?? And possibly a lot of pink to choose from??
1 second ago - 4 days left to answer.
A: If your looking for something unique our best bet it a smal boutique, problem is they usually dont have much variety to choose from. However, if you dont mind the normal kind of style of dresses, you could try places like Myer or Target, which usually have a wide range to choose from.
Q: Hi all,
Im in need of driving lessons but have just had a baby & do not have alot of money to spend on them. I did see an advert for $35 per hour but have no idea what the place was called.
Can anyone give me some places in brisbane or north side of brissy?
Thank you!!!
A: Try this guy he is nice guy. DAT DRIVING SCHOOL Auto or Manual ph: 3372 1429 MOB: 0423864169. As far as the north side it will really depend. His cars are Suzuki Swifts
Q: I want to volunteer there for a week but what's out there as far as night life? Thanks in advance!
P.S. How's the weather there in mid December-early January? Thanks!
A: If you're looking to chill-out, head for the bars and lounges of West End or New Farm. The Valley has a mix of hard-core nightclubs and more cosy, hidden retreats. A stroll down Caxton Street in Paddington will take you to a choice of watering holes. And don't forget the suburbs of Brisbane which are full of "traditional" pubs - with beers on tap, cheap and simple counter meals and a mix of all ages.
A typical day is warm and sunny with a freshening sea breeze arriving from the south in the afternoon.
Cool and cloudy conditions can prevail for some days at a time during which the temperature remains below 20ÂșC.
Q: I am so sick of the cold weather. I just want to know when it will warm up a little!!
A: We've still got the windy month to get through, so although the temps are ok, the wind makes it yukky. September is warm but you usually can't swim yet until late October. I mean, we Queenslanders don't swim until October, Kiwis and Victorians are still swimming at the beach here!
