Q: I'm African American,girl age 21, ill be with my two italian female friends we;ll be backpacking to Europe, for 6 months next Summer visiting Italy, Spain and Croatia. I was thinking of visiitng Bratislava and Ljubijana , or Budapest Hungary. How safe is Bratislava and Ljubijana for a African American individual>? do they speak/understand English? Same with Budapest?

A: English is the second language is some european countries. Racism is always present in every country so you must be careful of your surroundings. As for safety, you have to use your common sense, just like when you are in USA. Budapest and Bratislava is beautiful but i think you should also go to Prague (5 hours away by train). Learn some native language to help you. Other than that, just sit back and end enjoy your trip. Good luck.

Most people in eastern Europe understand english, especially if it's in a store. And it's pretty safe just watch for pick pocketers. Scenery is incredible and night life is unbelieveable.
