Q: I live in MD & of course many people have jobs in D.C & Baltimore. Our governor got a stimulus way before Obama was in office & it kept us from getting to a desperate level. Now this area has always had a variety of people. Rich & poor but I know my business is doing well. It appears to me that in this area a person does as well or as poorly as they make their mind up to be. I do notice that republicans are more negative & liberals are doing the best. Please tell me what you area is like & if you know of any areas going well.
I have heard the red states complaining that they are being destroyed so I don't understand the answers saying red states are doing well. Please be specific don't give me what fox tells you to say.
Obozo, I live in a conservative county & it is not doing well. The business have dried up & we have hospital & med centers that survived, walmart & very few other places then w & e of us in the liberal areas they are booming so come on why lie? I am living around both why would you want people to think people who are afraid to do anything are circulating money.
A: I've lived in many states over the years, currently in Missouri, plus I often travel. Missouri is doing really well. We have a Democratic Governor in Jay Nixon, who used to be our Prosecuting Attorney and our Secretary of State is Robin Carnahan (her dad was Mel Carnahan who died in a plane crash while running for the Senate and STILL beat religious-extremist Republican John Ashcroft posthumously). During the worst of the housing and credit markets' collapses in 2006 and 2007, Missouri rared better than many other states because we had never resorted to inflating the prices of our homes as was routinely done in western and eastcoast states (Massachusetts, especially). After a 2004 dire warning on NPR about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac being allowed to operate without any oversight---and that any collapse would DWARF the Republican-caused collapse of our savings and loan industry from the Reagan/Bush-Bush/Quayle supply-side/deregulations failed policies---I told people to hold off buying a home for at least three years, at which time it would be "a buyer's market." When I subsequently learned that the Bush adminstration had put the very Board members for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac IN CHARGE of "fixing" their own problems---the problems THEY caused in the first place, I told people to hold off even longer while all the fancy juggling of the figures and the "robbing from Peter to pay Paul" was going on in the Bush administration...and I bought an eight-room house with very large lot for $38,000 in 2007, with the seller paying closing costs. My grandbaby's dad does flooring and has not been out of work longer than two weeks since the financial meltdown in 2008---and even then he took on a temp job for a 12-hour shift at a pipe factory and earned $17.00/hour for two days. We have new businesses, including a Walgreen's that opened after the Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed in early 2009, and there is a new water treatment plant under construction in nearby St. James from that stimulus package. Schools were renovated over the summer with stimulus dollars, and road repairs are abundant all over the state. We also have some bridges being renovated in several places.
I agree that the Democrats are doing a lot for the people of this nation and for our economy. When my state's Senator Claire McCaskill sponsored a bill (now law) that LIMITED Bush's bailout bankers' salaries to $500,000 a year until we get repaid on the Bush/Cheney $789 TARP bailout funds, and paid back WITH INTEREST, 14 of those 419 welfare banks hurriedly repaid us $181 BILLION by December of last year---and those dollars all went to PAY DOWN OUR DEFICIT! I sure hope most Americans REMEMBER that these multiple MESSES we face as a nation were caused by the REPUBLICANS in TOTAL POWER from 2001 through to 2007, when voters realized Democrats are simply better with a budget and put us back into the majority. We've got green-energy products and plants operating now in more than 40 states, one example being in Wixom, Michigan in a formerly idled Ford Motor plant that now houses three new companies for wind-powered and solar-powered energy sources. Chrysler has moved part of its operations (the 800# Customer Service) back to Utah and Michigan and they are now HIRING. GM paid us back $8.1 BILLION earlier this year (more dollars that were applied to PAY DOWN OUR DEFICIT) and have reopened a plant in Missoui (and perhaps elsewhere), plus they have a new CIVILIAN contract with NASA. Whether people realize this yet or not, EVERY STATE is better than was true in 2005 through 2009 because the recovery is WORKING, albeit slowly. VOTE DEMOCRATS IN NOVEMBER!
