Can anyone from Atlanta recommend a good city or county to rent a home or townhome?

Q: I am moving to Georgia soon and I would like to move in a community north of Atlanta. Because I will be working in the heart of Atlanta I don't want to live primarily in the city, (but suggestions of a nice community their would be ok) Can anyone from Georgia inform me on a city or community (not more than 30 minutes out of the city) that is decent to live in (i.e. not too much crime, decent schools)? It doesn't have to be perfect...i would appreciate honest answers. Thanks!

A: For good schools, relatively short commute, and north of the city, I would recommend Smyrna or Marietta. However both of those areas can get expensive, so it does depend on your budget.

Re: Kennesaw, it's a nice place, but a little far out. With no traffic you can get downtown in 20-30 mins, but with rush hour traffic, it takes closer to 45 mins - 1 hour.

Kennesaw, Ga is a great place to live, pretty much no crime at all, it's very nice people are great...not to rural and not too city like. Great University KSU there, mall/shopping center, places to eat, bars, etc and like you said it is about 15-30 mins from the heart of ATL so you should deff check it out

If your budget can stand it, Smyrna & Marietta are good choices. Dunwoody and Alpharetta are even better. However the traffic from both areas can be a nightmare with one accident. However, you may want to look at Union City, GA. It is less than 30 minutes south of D'town Atlanta. Rarely any traffic coming from that end of town, neighborhoods are quiet and some are relatively new. The cost of living is inexpensive compared to that on the north end of town.

When is the best time to avoid traffic when driving into Atlanta?

Q: I'm planning on driving to Atlanta from Columbia, SC one weekend and was just curious about what time of the day would be best for me to head into Atlanta and possibly avoid the heavy traffic. I'm not saying I'm going to avoid all the traffic just don't wanna be stuck in a traffic jam that's all. Preferably someone whose driven in Atlanta can answer this question.

Please no DumbAzz or SmartAzz answers! Just and honest question

Thanks

A: If you are traveling on the weekend there won't be an issue with the traffic unless you run into a construction delay or an accident. During the work week you just need to avoid the interstates between 7 and 9 am and 3 - 7 pm

Just avoid rush hour like with Washington, DC. Actually, Washington is worse than Atlanta, but there are a ton of commuters on the freeways in Atlanta from 7-9AM and 4-6PM.
  • richard r says:
try and schedule your trip so that you arrive in Atlanta at 3 AM
  • sun_shinevt says:
Just stay of the roads between 7am-9am and then 4pm - 7pm during the week, except on Fridays when traffic starts getting heavy around 2pm. If you are arriving on Saturday or Sunday you should be fine pretty much anytime, although I would check the traffic map on the Georgia Department of Transportation or GA DOT website to see where there is construction delays.
  • mrsd says:
    I agree with Richard-about 3:00 am
  • ☪☮e✡is✝ says:
I agree with McCoy; though, I would add on the weekends you should check to make sure there are no major events going on downtown. When major events are going on, traffic can be pretty heavy through town and since you are from out of town I don't imagine you would know back roads so that would really suck to get caught up in that.
  • DSGB says:
If you're going on a Saturday then I would say anytime is ok... If its Friday try to get their between 9 and 4 or after 7 if you can't make it in that time frame.

How is Atlanta as far as starting a new life after college?

Q: I'm thinking about moving there after college in NC to kinda start a life of my own. I was wondering how is the living in Atlanta and is it a good place to start a career in Communications and a new life.

A: VERY GOOD! If you're degree is in Communications you'll find places like TBS and CNN or Time Warner down in Atlanta that offer very good career possibilities. Also living is very good too depending on where you go. If you're single and its just you than Downtown Atlanta or the surrounding areas would be a good place to look...good luck

I would recommend that you try to find a job before moving here.

Are there any independent video game retailers in the Atlanta area?

Q: I used to love Swap USA, because of its large selection of games from all generations, including some imports and uncommon games. And even some small chain stores suited my needs, such as Rhino Games. But all of these such stores seem to have been purchased or driven out of business by GameStop. Are there any remaining independent video game stores in the Atlanta area, preferable ones that sell old games?

A: First, look for used bookstore, such as these:

Can my car make the trip from Atlanta to Dallas?

Q: I drive a 1998 Honda Accord. Around 7 months ago, the timing belt broke and my head gasket was damaged. However, the car still runs ok. It shakes a little bit but it does fine on the freeway. I am planning to move from Atlanta to Dallas for college but I'm not sure if my car will make it. What could happen?

A: Your car should make it. I have a friend that moved form New York, New York to Chicago in a Honda Accord. I think her car is about 10 years old and has been used with a lot of miles on it. While she was driving she forgot to get the oil changed before she left. So they had to tow it and then change the oil. Everything else was fine. You really don't need to worry so much, Honda's are very reliable. Just go to the repair shop..have them check everything. Including the axles, tires, tire pressure, the engine, you know....anti freeze and what not. Then you'll be good to go! unless they find a very bad problem.
