Mary Jane has some Orlando Dining Tips. She says if you’re traveling to Orlando with young children it’s important to locate restaurants that offer an environment and menus that are kid-friendly.
Travelers put in so much effort to plan the perfect getaway with selecting hotels, attractions and activities for their families, but the one thing that sometimes falls by the wayside when setting up the itinerary is a magical dining experience!
At Fulton’s Crab House, Portobello and Wolfgang Puck Café, all conveniently and scenically located in Downtown Disney® at Walt Disney World Resort, a lackluster dinner is never a concern! Each restaurant offers a unique and exciting dining atmosphere with fresh and inspired menu selections, and creative kids menus too. And being so close to the popular theme parks and hotels, it has never been more convenient to enjoy a fun and memorable dining event.
With all three location nestled on the Downtown Disney® property, there are plenty of activities to do after dinner as well. Perhaps take a ride on the Characters in Flight tethered balloon and soar 400 feet above the ground! For the movie lovers in the family visit the AMC® Downtown Disney 24 Theatre to see this season’s blockbuster. There is also La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil®, an amazing acrobatic spectacle and DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park, for exciting arcade fun.
Walk the plank up to Fulton’s Crab House grand riverboat restaurant for a dining experience unlike any other. A treat for the taste buds and Disney history buffs, Fulton’s is actually the originally named Empress Lilly riverboat, a gift from Walt Disney to his wife Lillian (Lilly). From Alaskan-king crab claws to stone and blue crab, Fulton’s menu always features fresh, newly inspired and traditional seafood dishes. Tuna, salmon, mahi-mahi, lobster, juicy steaks and chops, creamy bisques and chowders, salads, appetizers, desserts and an award-winning wine list round out the offerings. Plus the ever-pleasing kids menu and seasonal specialties. Let Fulton’s delectable menu items and oceanic themed dining rooms thrill you for an experience that far surpasses any typical dining location. Fulton’s also features private decks for special functions and parties.
Portobello restaurant is a relaxing trattoria that immediately transports guests to the Tuscan countryside with its warmly rustic interior décor, outdoor alfresco patio, wood-burning oven, expansive wine list, and at its heart, mouth-watering Italian fare. Begin with a choice of antipasti platters or appetizers such as the Sambuca Shrimp, or one of four wood-burning oven pizza choices. Entrée selections of pasta dishes, steak, chicken and seafood range from Black Linguine with Florida Rock Shrimp, Rigatoni Calabrese, and the signature Bucatini, to Chicken Pizzaiola, Mahi Mahi with Polenta, and Beer Braised Pork Belly to name a few. Save room for desserts such as their specialty Biramisu: Tiramisu with beer! A kids’ favorites menu offers pizza, spaghetti, chicken, steak, burgers and more. And for larger groups you can even enjoy family-style dining featuring heaping platters of pasta and more.
Asian and California-fusion cuisine serves as art for the eye and the palate in the vibrant setting of the Wolfgang Puck Grand Café. The multi-concept restaurant known for its fresh ingredients and innovative dishes offers guests four separate dining options in the casual-chic Café, the upscale Dining Room, the high-energy Sushi Bar and the quick-service Express. Dine on a bevy of delicious starters, soups, sides and main dishes from melt in your mouth sushi to the Dining Room’s signature menu items such as Duck Napoleon, Kurobuta Pork Wienerschnitzel and Seared Salmon with Turnip Puree. Savor delicious wine from the Wine Spectator award-winning wine selection, but remember to save room for their signature Carrot Cake and Key Lime Pie. An innovative kids menu ensures everyone is satisfied, whether dining with family or friends for lunch or dinner or with a large group for a special occasion.

Making reservations at any of the restaurants is easy and suggested, and can also be made up to 180 days in advance. For full menu selections or any additional information, please contact us at your earliest convenience.
Thanks for the tips Mary Jane.
MARY JANE K. works for a PR firm representing the restaurants listed above.
Meghan was born and raised in Orlando, Fla. and now lives in Atlanta. She wanted to send some ideas your way regarding tips for traveling the area. She says:
Although Orlando is most famous for it’s theme parks, most locals tend to stay as far away from them as possible.
One of the best areas of Central Florida is Winter Park a small suburb on the outskirts of downtown Orlando. Winter Park (http://www.cityofwinterpark.org/ ) is home to Rollins College, Park Avenue and the beautiful chain of lakes.
I would recommend the Winter Park scenic boat tour (http://scenicboattours.com/home.htm), a stroll down Park Avenue to visit the unique shops and restaurants, and a visit to the Morse Museum (home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany).
The best time to visit Winter Park is during the annual Winter Park Art Festival (http://www.wpsaf.org/CMS/), which will take place on March 16, 17 and 18 of this year. Artists from all over the country come to showcase their work while residents throughout Florida come to stroll in the sunshine. Food trucks and restaurants offer unique bites and cocktails, while retailers provide sales to attract new customers. Because Winter Park is such a low-key city, celebrities such as Hugh Jackman and Carrot Top along with NBA stars, Dwight Howard and Michael Jordan have been spotted spending time at this event.
Interested in architecture and visiting Orlando? Well, Karen has a couple of tips for Orlando area visitors. She says “take a break from the artificial theme parks of Orlando and visit Lakeland just an hour away where you can visit Florida Southern College (https://www.flsouthern.edu/) and see the world’s largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings (https://www.flsouthern.edu/fllwctr/ ) on the campus.”
Zac runs a live theater in Orlando and he says, “As an Orlando resident, my biggest tip is to leave the theme park area and see the ‘Real’ Orlando.” Here is the inside scoop - Zac says visit the following sites:
Downtown Orlando (http://www.downtownorlando.com/)- In addition to being the home of Mad Cow Theatre, Downtown has wonderful dining and experiences. Visitors should check out Kres Chophouse ($$$) for dinner or Gringos Locos ($) for lunch, stroll around beautiful Lake Eola, and check out the boutiques in Thornton Park. The monthly Church St. Car Show is not to be missed.
Winter Park ( )- Home to several great museums, including the most comprehensive collection of Tiffany glass (Morse Museum http://www.morsemuseum.org/) Winter Park has a couple lovely shopping districts along Park Avenue and in Hannibal Square (Including Rifle Paper Co. and Makr Cary Goods two amazing stores specializing in handmade goods!) The scenic boat tour gives you a peek into the back yards and gardens of million dollar mansions surrounding the city?s lakes and canals. Pretty much anywhere you want to stop to eat is going to be amazing, but I suggest Prato and Park Plaza Gardens.
Mills/50 District (http://www.mills50.org/ ) - Artsy mix of eateries and nightlife near the namesake intersection. We have a larger selection of Vietnamese restaurants than most anywhere in the US, galleries, creative firms, and dive bars. This is the neighborhood I call home. Late-night dining at Bananas is a blast, and venues like Will?s Pub and the Peacock Room offer nightly entertainment with local music and drink specials.
Ivanhoe Village - Just north of Downtown on the shores of beautiful Lake Ivanhoe (We’ve got a lot of lakes!), this neighborhood offers antiquing and boutique shops and a selection of restaurants. 1618 Something Modern offers mid-century modern furniture and décor, and Washburn Imports becomes a craft beer bar at night!
Other areas to check out include College Park (wonderful dining,) the Milk District (another artsy area with plenty of drinking holes), Audubon Park (amazing weekly market on Monday nights) and Loch Haven Park (http://www.omart.org/pages/loch-haven-park - Cultural Corridor featuring the Orlando Museum of Art (http://www.omart.org/ ), Orlando Science Center (http://www.osc.org/), Mennello Museum of Art (http://www.mennellomuseum.com/), and 2 theatres.)
In the heart of Downtown Orlando, Mad Cow Theatre (http://www.madcowtheatre.com/ ) is one of Orlando’s most respected professional theatre companies presenting compelling works of theatre for a wide-range of audiences, with a passion for both classic and contemporary plays and musicals representing the best of American and World literature.
He says that they have more than 250 performances, classes and events throughout the year, with 10 plays and musicals and the annual Orlando Cabaret Festival and Orlando Puppet Festival.
Visiting Orlando, Well Mark says he can help you with spots to visit in the real Orlando, ones the locals know about. He runs the Orlando website called The Daily City and it talks about events and sites in and around Orlando.
Here are some events that you should look into: – The Food Truck Bazaar, Central Florida’s original traveling community food truck event in Orlando – Orlando Improv Festival runs during the month of February every year. It features local & national comedy improv groups come together to celebrate the art of comedy improv. – AND the Orlando Dessert Festival is a unique event will bring everyone in Orlando together in the name of all that’s sweet and delicious.
Travel Tip for Orlando – Rollins College in Winter Park, Morse Museum more …
Visiting Greater Orlando? Well, Malia says Greetings and Good day to you! This is what they did on a recent trip to Orlando Florida for a travel conference. You might want to:
Visit to Winter Park- experience the cultural face of central Florida within the quaint and historic community of Winter Park—a trendy and colorful haven of specialty shops, galleries, sidewalk cafes and museums. They also visited, Rollins College with a phenomenal gentleman, President Emeritus Dr. Thaddeus Seymour will lead us on a brief tour of the magnificent Spanish Mediterranean-style buildings of Rollins College along the shores of Lake Virginia, including the Walk of Fame, Pinehurst Cottage, 9/11 Memorial and the beautiful Knowles Memorial Chapel. Founded in 1885 by New England Congregationalists, Rollins is the oldest recognized college in the state of Florida.
Malia says if you’re visiting Orlando then here are some must sees:
1. the Morse Museum of American Art, which houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of Tiffany works and glass displays as well as works by John La Farge, Daniel Chester French, John Singer Sargent and Frank Lloyd Wright, along with Arts and Crafts furniture and pottery. The museum’s new jaw-dropping 12,000-square-foot wing devoted to Laurelton Hall, Louis Comfort Tiffany’s huge estate on the North Shore of Long Island, features more than 250 art and architectural objects associated with the estate. The Morse Museum opened at its current location in 1995, and a 1999 addition houses the magnificent Byzantine-Romanesque interior of the chapel Tiffany created for the 1893 Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition.
2. The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens. Founded in 1961, the museum is known for its collection of American representational sculpture, including more than 200 works by Czech-born American sculptor Albin Polasek (1879-1965). In 2004 Polasek was posthumously inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. The museum, his former retirement home, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of only 30 members of the National Trust’s Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios. Our tour includes a viewing of a special exhibition, Artful Strings – Four Centuries of Harp Making – showcasing 50 harps from the International Harp Museum’s collection dating from the 18th century to 21st century. Along with American and European instruments, there are examples of ancient African, Asian and Egyptian harps, vintage photos, artwork, costumes and jewelry.
Travel Tip for Orlando – Outdoor destinations rated by Park Visitor
Shari says that their website: parkvisitor.com launched recently and is a great resource for families seeking insider information on favorite outdoor destinations.
There are many tools out there for people to find a good restaurant, nail salon and doctor, but what about researching an outdoor activity or park, or connecting with an outdoor enthusiast community? When researching your next campsite destination, use the park visitor website because it is a valuable resource for outdoor enthusiasts to access comprehensive information about parks nationwide. Experts and enthusiasts contribute comments, tips and review and — combined with social media input – create a profile of each park with a proprietary ParkVisitor score.
Shari says we should think of it as Yelp meets Zagat…something that’s missing for outdoor recreation and an easy way to find a park by location or activity to help people get outdoors more!

About Davio’s: In 1985, at the young and ambitious age of 24, Steve DiFillippo purchased a locally-owned family restaurant called Davio¹s on Newbury Street in Boston¹s trendy Back Bay. As Boston¹s culinary tastes evolved, he transformed the location into a destination, retooling the menu, the space and wine list.
The new Davio¹s soon garnered rave reviews.
The concept behind Davio¹s Northern Italian Steakhouse is simple. Regional Italian food with a focus on the grill. Everything is prepared by hand from the best ingredients. Davio’s serves everything from aged steaks to simple-yet-unique pasta creations. Davio’s takes great pride in serving guests with an expert kitchen and attentive staff in the dining room, seeing to every customer’s enjoyment of their meal. Steve has since opened locations in Foxborough, Massachusetts (Patriot Place), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and with a new location in Atlanta, Georgia.
TIP: Vietnamese food, Convention Center & Mall in Philly
Here’s a tip from Brenda for looking for Vietnamese food in Philiadelphia and things to do, She says:
I live 35 minutes outside Philly, in South Jersey.
The absolute BEST place to eat is called Vietnam Restaurant. I have been going there for 25 years! It is located in the China Town section of Philly and is great fun to walk and visit the area.
221 North 11th St. Philadelphia, PA 19107 | Vietnam Restaurant & Cafe. _www.eatatvietnam.com/vietnam_restaurant.php_
The Convention Center & Gallery Mall are close to China Town. Also close is the Reading Terminal Market another fun place to walk thru and tons to eat and good pastries at the Amish market there
Philly has tons of historical sites all within walking distance of each other.
My best suggestion. Put on comfortable walking shoes, go to the visitors bureau and grab a map and audio tour, start at Betsy Ross House. and take a walk thru history! You will never run out of things to see.
South Street has tons of places to eat. Go have lunch at Copabanana – located at: 344 South Street
Night time can be rowdy so best to go during the day. Not a place to take small children.
