Enjoy a week in London with a night away in Shakespeare’s Stratford and premium seats to Hamlet at the RSC theatre. Add to this a visit to the wonderful Highclere Castle, “Downton Abbey” of TV fame – where you will spend an afternoon in the house, strolling the grounds and visiting the Egyptian exhibition – and you have a tour of true cultural variety.

Sept 6th: Fly from Canada*

Sept 7th: Meet and Greet service at Heathrow and transfer, by private motorcoach to your central, 4 star London hotel. Rest of day is free to relax or start exploring London. Sept 8th: Pick up from hotel for a full day, escorted sightseeing tour of London including the cities of Westminster and London, a stop at Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard, and a walk along the historic Southbank.                                                                          (B)

Sept 9th: An early departure from the hotel to drive into the Berkshire countryside, west of London. First stop is the Bladebone Inn in the village of Buckleberry for tea/coffee & cake. The village was the family home of the Duchess of Cambridge and the publicans were guests at her wedding to Prince William! On to Highclere Castle for our 12.00 noon group admission. Rest of the afternoon here, soaking up the atmosphere of “Downton Abbey”, the castle, grounds and Egyptian exhibition, before returning to London for overnight. (note: you will not see the “downstairs” of the TV series as these scenes are filmed elsewhere in a studio). If time allows we will stop in Windsor on the way back to London.      (B)

Sept 11th: First to Bampton, the village in Oxfordshire used for filming many of the outside scenes of “Downton”, with time to visit the church and library (the hospital in the series). (D)Day 2 PassauToday you will take a walking tour of this elegant town, called the Dreiflüssestadt (City on Three Rivers), which is situated at the confluence of the Danube, Ilz and Inn Rivers. You will see the impressive Veste Oberhaus, a 13th-century fortress that served as a bishop’s stronghold for several centuries. This afternoon, you are free to explore Passau. See the sights and experience the local culture, or simply relax on board before dinner. Sailing departures November 24–December 22 will also visit Passau’s Christmas market. (B, L, D)Day 3 Linz & SalzburgToday’s activity is an excursion to the legendary Austrian city of Salzburg, known as the location for the film, The Sound of Music. Day 5 Vienna Today we tour the Austrian capital of Vienna. Ride along the Ringstrasse, which replaced the city walls in the mid-19th century. See some of the city’s baroque architecture, including the world-famous Opera House, St. Stephan’s Cathedral and Hofburg Palace. Return to your ship for lunch. The rest of the day is yours to further explore—as always, your Program Director can help you plan your free time. Or you may take an optional tour to Schönbrunn Palace, the Versailles of Vienna, graced by a number of formal gardens, classical statuary, the world’s oldest zoo and the “Roman ruin” erected in 1778. Day 6 Bratislava Arrive in Bratislava this morning and embark on a walking tour of Slovakia’s charming capital—the only national capital that borders two other countries, Austria and Hungary—with a long and fascinating history. See attractions like the medieval Town Hall complex and fortifications at Michael’s Tower, baroque Jesuit Church and Gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral, and pass by several Habsburg-era baroque palaces before returning to your ship for lunch and departure. Day 7 Budapest Today we visit highlights of both the older “Buda” and more cosmopolitan “Pest” sides of the city, starting with Pest’s National Opera House and historic Heroes’ Square. In Buda, walk along Fishermen’s Hill to Fishermen’s Bastion and Matthias Church. Here’s a tip from Margot. She says that if you are visiting Disney Land in California then you need to stay at the “Red Lion Hotel Anaheim, a most charming, well kept and one of the most reasonably priced in the area. I would consider it a great find in the area!

Also, they were just awarded 4 Stars from TripAdvisor and consistently a huge amount of client satisfaction. And, may I mention, they have a fantastic sense of humor.” The Tuesday, July 5th issue of the Wall Street Journal mentioned their Summer promotion offering free stays to any U.S. Married couple named William and Kate. Since the Royals decided not to make Disney Land part of their visit to Southern California.
