Finding High Value at Events this Week!
By: Maria King
Date: July 15, 2012
I love a bargain! Who doesn’t right? A bargain is actually something of value; it is something with a much greater value than what you pay. So this week I thought I would bring you a list of events that are not only terrific events with huge attendance and lots of activities, but they are also a tremendous bargain and value. Each of them has free admission. There are some fees for certain activities and food, but you can spend a few hours enjoying the atmosphere and exploring the event without spending a nickel. That’s a bargain by any definition! One of the featured high value events this week is the Port Fish Days in Port Washington, WI, where they fry up the best fish and chips at any event west of London. They also do everything they can to keep the costs down. A family can actually afford to eat at this event for a very reasonable fee because a serving of Fish and Chips is $5.50 and a soda is only $1.50. Throw in the $3 concert entrance fee and that is less than going to a movie. With all the other amenities at the event you are looking at a real bargain.
Another food event that knows how to treat their attendees right is the Cincinnati Jazz and Ribfest. It features art vendors, multiple stages of entertainment, lots of food options, children’s activities and much, much more.
Next, if you happen to be in the Seattle area check out Bite of Seattle a culinary adventure of food along with many wonderful activities for young and old. And again, there is no entrance fee, you pay only for the things you want to buy or eat.
And in Maine this week there is the Yarmouth Clam Festival. I wonder what kind of food they serve there? I will clam up and let you all guess. (I know it was bad, even for me). Trust me this is a terrific event no matter what you eat there!
Some other events offering a great time, great fun and a great value this week are the River-Cade Festival in Iowa, the Fargo Street Fair in North Dakota, the Virginia Lake Festival, the Lehigh Valley Sportsfest in Pennsylvania, the Hillsboro Balloon Festival and Fair in New Hampshire, the Buffalo Grove Invitational Art Show in New York, the Roar at the Shore in Pennsylvania, the Saint Christopher Mid-Summer Festival in Indiana, Artscape in Maryland and the Ann Arbor Art Fair. In addition to being a great value for you and I these events can be a financial windfall for their communities. That’s a great thing about events, they can be a win-win for all concerned. The attendees get a great opportunity to have fun, to share experiences with their friends and neighbors and to showcase their area to visitors. Meanwhile the area businesses get to take a ride on the event coattails by having special sales, restaurant and hotel deals and selling event memorabilia. Just look at how much money was made from all those bobble heads of the royal family sold during the Queens Jubilee recently. They certainly impacted the bottomline of the merchants that sold them. I think they really should have had a new designer line of Queen pocketbooks myself but maybe it was too obvious. Anyway you get the idea. But equally important local charities can benefit from donations made by the events from event profits every year.
So in this sluggish economy, look no further than your own backyard for some real bargains at events this week. As always be sure to use the search box above to have some truly valuable fun!
