All I Can Say is WOW!
Date: July 29, 2012
I tried to find an appropriate way to sum up this week’s events and it was difficult because the amount of events was so overwhelming. We are at the height of event season, and there are so many fabulous events to choose from it is dizzying. Every category is exploding; car shows, art events, food festivals, fairs, ethnic events, music events etc. I wrestled with themes and played with cute ideas and I just kept coming back to one undisputed conclusion, WOW!
This week the selections were so great that some are wrapped inside of an even bigger event; like a nice surprise. The first of these is the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival; a series of events celebrating the Class of 2012 inductees. Wrapped inside that blanket event is the HOF Rib Burnoff, a mouth watering rib eating experience. Next up is Seafair in Seattle; a wonderful series of events under that one umbrella. This weekend we highlight the Boeing Air Show and Albert Lee Cup Races. Held on and over lake Washington these events are the finale to the 6 weeks of Seafair.
Also up this week are three world famous music events. For the country music lover there is the WE Fest in Detroit Lakes MN. For the easy listening of jazz in just about the most perfect outdoor setting there is, we serve up the Newport Jazz Festival in Newport RI. And last but not least by any means, for the person who likes to listen to all types of music, there is Musikfest in Bethlehem PA. A 10 day adventure through every musical style you can imagine, Musikfest is a toe-tapping buffet for your ears and your soul.
This week has no shortage of world class art events either. There is the Fremont Festival of the Arts in (guess where?) Fremont CA, the Park City Art Fest in (guess where?) Park City UT, Anacortes Arts Festival in (guess where?) Anacortes, WA and the Amish Acres Arts and Crafts Festival in (guess where?) Nappanee, IN (got ya!). You had to know I was going to include at least one to see if you were paying attention. Well no matter where you thought they were, if you can get to any of these, you will have a great time and see some really great art.
I have two food events this week. I know, I can hear you all saying, only two? Yes well I do love food but there were so many great events this week, and I already have a rib fest mentioned earlier, I thought that I would stick with just two. They are the Maine Lobster Fest in (I am not going to ask) Rockland ME and the Carytown Watermelon Festival in Richmond VA. Of course it is possible that I am sneaking in two food festivals under ethnic events. You knew I could not make a list with only 3 food festivals. Ethnic festivals this week which are excellent representations of the culture they celebrate are the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament in Bedford, MA which is a Portuguese celebration and the Dublin Irish Festival in Dublin OH.
And finally I have one catch-all event that has a huge selection of arts and crafts, multiple stages of musical entertainment and an enormous variety of great food. It is the 22 block street fair known as Decatur Celebration.
As always if there isn’t anything on this list in your area, use the search box above to find lots of wonderful events in your backyard this week. Be sure to get out there and have fun no matter “where” you go.
