Madiera's Artisan
"Madiera's Artisan" is of a woman that I saw employing her trade on the Portugese Island of Madiera off the North Western coast of Africa. The island, dubbed the Garden Island of the Atlantic, is known for three things. the sweet Madiera Wine, flowering plants and embroidered linnen. Regretfully the island was hit with massive flooding in early March of 2010.
Look at the thread blowing in the breeze as she works intently on the piece which will be sold down town. This piece reminds me of the type of work that went into the linnen table cloth that I purchased.
The day is coming when people like her will be gone. The art is not being passed down to current generations like it was a hundred years ago.
