Dedicated to Diana

In October, 1997 took my fourth
trip to the United Kingdom. This time, I skipped all of the things that first and
second time tourists due on a trip to London and the UK. Once you see the British
Parliament, Big Ben and the changing of the guard you do not need to see that again.
GREENWICH MERIDIAN

London and United Kingdom happens to
be one my favorite places to visit. Even although I have been to China, Hong Kong,
and Europe, I keep going back to the United Kingdom. I guess it's because my
father's, father's family came from North London and Edinburgh, Scotland.

English Football (Soccer)
This was a leisurely trip with time to take in two English football (American soccer)
matches. The Fall-time is a great time to visit United Kingdom if you're interested
in watching soccer the British way. Thanks to my friends on the UK newsgroups, a
great Web Page maintained by: CarlingNet for Premier League Soccer in the U.K. (http://www.fa-premier.com/) and a friend at the
Football Trust on Melton Street near Euston Square I was able to get tickets to see the
Tottenham Hot-Spurs play against Derby. I was also able to see the last couple of
minutes of a third division match thanks to a couple of bobbies who got us into the gate
last-minute. In addition to this, I enjoyed watching the match between England and Italy in a local pub
(England won).
When you go to London, is really
nice to have the time to do things on a spur of the moment. One example was the day
that we were walking down the Street and saw a co-motion and decided to investigate.
As a result of this investigation, we were invited to a press conference to introduce a
boxing match between World Champion, Vinnie "The Pazmanian
Devil" Pazienza and the British contender Harold Graham. This was a
surprise for me as well as Vinnie, whom I have met one time before.
STRATFORD ON AVON

In addition to spending a week in
and around London, I also got to spend sometime in Stratford upon Avon, Oxford University
and the Cottswold's
VISITING NOTTINGHAM CASTLE AND ROBIN HOOD's SHERWOOD FOREST

D.H. LAWRENCE BIRTH PLACE

The tour that we took, took us to
Nottingham and Sherwood Forest. Here we saw one of the oldest pubs in England.
The "Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem" was established in normal 1189 A.D.. Here
we enjoyed a couple of pints of brew and talking with two British students. The
balance of the trip we visited the birthplaces of D.H. Lawrence (Lady Chatterly's Lover),The
Bronte Parsonage Museum in Hayworth (Jane Eyre), William Wordsworth's birthplace,
Dove Cottage (Daffodils) and enjoyed a steam ship ride on Lake Windermere.
